Transformice is a free-to-play multiplayer browser platform game. Released in 2010, the game has won award of the best browser game of 2010 and has also been nominated for Indie game of the year. Recently, with its growing community and increasing popularity, Transformice has also been released on Steam.
In Transformice, every players is represented by a mouse as his avatar. Your main purpose in the game is to collect cheese and return to the mouse hole by passing hurdles and solving puzzles as soon as possible. There is a special mouse called shaman in every level to help mice out in surviving the game. Once all mice have returned to the mouse hole or have died by falling off the map, next map is automatically started. Lead scorer in a map becomes shaman in the next map. Shaman has the ability to summon different objects which he can use to make complex structures(totems) to save mice. Saving mice and collecting cheese increases experience points of a player. As the experience increases, the level of the players advances and player is awarded with skill points. These skill points can be spent to earn skills to become a better shaman. Gaining experience also unlocks new titles which are hovered over the mice during the game.
Positives
Transformice has different rooms for different countries as well as international rooms where players from all countries can join. The game also has a live chat-box which enables players to communicate in real time. It can also be used to execute chat commands. Moreover, players can make tribes where they can mass chat with each other irrespective of the room they are in. All in all, it is a nice game to keep you busy for a while.
Transformice, as a browser is a fantastic game. The physical engine of the game, despite being overly simplistic, opens many possibilities of techniques for the players. Being a real time multiplayer game and having the facility to chat with other players in real time hooks you up as you join the game. The battle among players to become a lead scorer in order to become a shaman promotes really competitive environment. Being a shaman, you feel the authority and power in your hands. Save any mouse you want and throw anyone out of the map; players being utterly dependent on you for their success and gaining experience at a terribly faster rate than normal players are all the traits which make you want to play the game more. Another thing that is praise worthy is that it is not a pay to win game neither does it involve annoying ads of hot singles in your area. The shop, where you can spend real money to buy items is almost filled with HATS. You can find almost any type of hat in Transformice shop. If you want to look cool, you have got to pay. Otherwise, you can simply become master of the game without spending a dime. Fair deal!
Negatives
There are, however things that need improvement. Graphics of the game can be much better. It is true that being a browser based game, it cannot reach the level of a PC based game, but there is plenty that can be improved staying under the flagship of a flash based game.
Another thing, that is a huge turn-off for many players is that the game becomes repetitive after a while. Same jumping, running, dodging and trolling which seems fun at first starts becoming boring after a while and you see yourself inclining towards closing the tab after an hour or so. Due to this trait of repetition, Transformice has become a part time game for many players. It is also the case with most of the flash based games but seeing how much effort has been put in the engine and managing national and international servers, Transformice could really do better.
All in all, Transformice is a really nice game and every player who likes real time strategy should give it a shot but it can be improved a lot. It can be improved to become a full time game.
